Citizens have gathered across the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-led assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The incident led to more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the most most lethal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel answered by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are considered accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"The violent enemies have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will never again pose a threat to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled state memorials until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held across the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was televised throughout Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was respected across the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives convened in the North African Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of indirect talks to discuss the conditions of the agreement.

A prominent representative familiar with the discussions said that an evening round of mediated discussions began at 7 PM local time.

The official said the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, amid disagreements over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not restart hostilities after the initial stage of the agreement.

He added that the negotiations are "tough and have still not produce any major advancement," but noted that mediators are working hard to narrow the differences between the conflicting groups.

Essential Points in Negotiations

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The trade of the captives still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies provision
  • Future management of the region

Citizen Reaction

In the city's public square previously, young Hagar - whose brother lived through the attack on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were lost their lives and many more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - told: "No location appears as home now and until each abducted person are released none of us will be secure."

"After we see all home returned, we can relax anew. Then we can start to heal," she added.

In front of the leader's residence in the capital, people assembled to show their solidarity for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports nearly fifty continue in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Activist one woman stated: "We must do any agreement necessary for the hostages to come back home. But we really want promises that we will be protected."

Surveys now consistently show that approximately the majority of Israeli citizens want the conflict to finish in as payment for the freedom of the abducted.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the site of the gathering, grieving people came together to pay their respects.

From the site, the noise of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be noticed just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the severe Israeli shelling persisted.

In the main city, bombardments were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, area and Nasr districts and in the east side district of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the night comes, the dread comes with it," displaced urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was died by an Israeli air strike last year, described.

"My family are terrified of the attacks. All the night we are lying together, clinging, especially my little child who rests his face on me the entire evening."

"Every second we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm worried that this halt will not be completed and that the war will return to us."

Health Situation

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had received the bodies of several people by the afternoon, including a trio killed in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

Another medical facility in the south region of the city reported another two dead people had been delivered. A person was lost his life by Israeli forces while seeking assistance to the south region, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
