Much like bad weather hit the north-west the previous evening, City overwhelmed the visitors aside at the their home ground. It was a statement three-nil victory for Andrée Jeglertz’s side due to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a display that truly announced their championship potential as they strengthened their place at the WSL pinnacle.

Back-to-Back Setbacks for Manchester United

This result marked consecutive Women's Super League losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since last May, putting them a significant margin off the top team with their trophy ambitions in serious doubt.

The Red Devils' capacity to juggle league and continental soccer with a limited team has been a hotly discussed subject since they secured entry to the European competition. Ex- Manchester City player Park came nearest, striking the upright, but the visitors were lacking in ideas and failed to register a one shot on goal.

The home side, on the other hand, could have extended their cushion when a excellent Miedema long ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fluff her lines but it was insignificant to the hosts. Previously unable to beat any opponent who ended above them the previous campaign, the manager's side now have victories against the Gunners and United to place them in a strong standing after nine games.
