The Details Known About the Fatalities of the Bondi Shooting

No fewer than 16 lives were killed and over 40 were hurt when attackers opened fire at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local authorities have labeled a act of terrorism.

As of the newest reports, authorities have stated the death toll remains at 16, encompassing one of the alleged attackers. Additionally, 42 people with injuries were transported to medical facilities.

The deceased are still awaiting officially identified, but police believe their ages range between 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.

She recounted the events leading up to the attack, saying they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced immense hardship in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, according to police reports.

An Israeli citizen was also killed during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people transported to hospitals, many are still under care, with a number in serious condition. The injured include two officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. It has been reported he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He stated he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He described he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I was hit. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
