The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:

  • Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
