This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
